The Portland State University Alumni Association is proud to present the Art
of Networking & Professional Success - formerly known as the Student
Etiquette Dinner!

Join fellow PSU Vikings to learn the do’s and don’ts of networking etiquette. Our speaker Mindy Lockard, will share her knowledge on networking etiquette followed by a panel discussion with representatives from some of the top employers in the region. Prior to the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in informational interviews with established alumni from corporate, nonprofits and government sectors.  Refreshments and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided.

Informational Interviewees

Amanda Lamb, MPA ’10 – Senior Public Safety Research Analyst at Multnomah County
Amanda Lamb has a BA from Lewis & Clark College with a major in Philosophy and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Portland State University. She is currently employed by the Multnomah County Local Public Safety Coordinating Council as the Senior Public Safety Research Analyst. Amanda's role is to collaborate with partners to evaluate the effectiveness of various criminal justice programs. Prior to joining LPSCC, Amanda spent five years as a performance auditor in multiple jurisdictions.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys volunteering in her community. Amanda currently serves on the Board of Alumni for Portland State University and is the Board President for the Montavilla Food Cooperative. In the past, she has led the Public Administration Alumni Association, served as Editor for the Local Government Auditing Quarterly Journal, and served as Volunteer Coordinator for the NW Public Employees Diversity Conference. When not volunteering, Amanda enjoys spending time at home with her family and pets.

Dan Adams ’92 – Senior Financial Advisor & Vice President at Merrill Lynch
Since entering the financial services industry in 2000, Dan Adams weathered some of the most tumultuous periods in stock market history and learned to take an open, disciplined and straightforward approach to wealth management that is sensitive to clients' concerns about risk. His goal is to help clients invest rationally, whether the markets are moving up or experiencing declines. Dan is sensitive to market trends and their potential impact on client investments, relentlessly striving to establish goal-appropriate asset allocations and implement tactical strategies designed to help their portfolio weather fluctuations in the market.

The most rewarding part about being a Financial Advisor is helping clients organize their financial lives. Dan strive to become an advocate and mentor to clients as he aids them in pursuing their goals and financial objectives. Retirement planning services are his passion, and he holds a Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (SM) CRPS® designation. From retirement planning services, estate planning services, investment selection and monitoring, to debt management, he strive to help clients achieve financial success by connecting all the pieces of their financial life.

He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business with a minor in Sociology from Portland State University in Oregon. A native of Portland, he lives with his wife, Sherry, in Vancouver, Washington, with their two sons, Joshua and Cameron.

Eric Brown, MPH ’97 – Chief Operating Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities of OR and SW WA
Eric Brown is the Chief Operating Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and SW Washington (RMHC), with responsibility for human resources, training, IT, finance, facilities, guest services, volunteer management and family programming for the 56 families staying at 3 houses each night. Eric also serves as the principle at ESB Consulting where he provides executive coaching, organizational effectiveness planning, and project management support to nonprofit agencies.

Prior to joining RMHC, he served as Executive Director at the YWCA of Greater Portland, and worked in multiple leadership positions at the American Red Cross (ARC) during his 15-year tenure, including CEO and COO of the NW Region. Most recently, Eric served as an ARC National Vice President where he directed the sales operations and support for 1300 staff and 95,000 local partners engaged in supporting 6 million blood donations coast to coast.

Eric is devoted to leading efforts to improve nonprofit effectiveness and creating great places to work for people who are dedicated to serving the community – both paid staff and volunteers. He thrives on mobilizing individuals and teams at every level of an organization to ensure the best possible service delivery.

Eric holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado, Master Certificate of Project Management from George Washington University, and an MPH from Portland State University. Eric currently serves as the Vice President at the PSU Alumni Association. He is also the former Board Chair of Hands On-Greater Portland and has served on numerous local, state, and national boards.
